Hello! Thanks for visiting my website. Here you'll find my CV, links to my articles, a list of the courses that I teach at the University of Southern California, and a little bit about me.
By way of introduction, I'm an Assistant Professor of Sociology and Spatial Sciences at the University of Southern California. I am on leave this academic year (2018-19), part of which I will spend at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research thanks to a Max Planck Sabbatical Award.
My research explores how social institutions help create and maintain health disparities. Most of my work focuses on two social institutions wherein youth spend the bulk of their time: family and schools. The tremendous variation in both family and kinship patterns as well as educational experiences across the globe has taken my work into international terrain. I focus predominately on contemporary African contexts, which have undergone extraordinary family and educational change in the last fifty years.
